French breads, anyone?

Hi guys. I just want to say that Le Chatelaine (on Lane Ave, across from Wild Oats) is fantastic. We've not gone for a meal yet, but we keep popping into grab whatever breads look good (which all of them usually do -- it's hard to limit ourselves to our grad student/tutor budget).

And since Jason was lamenting the lack of pictures around here, this is a photo of the prettiest thing that I've bought there:

This is its last known photo. The cat-shaped tart has since disappeared under mysterious circumstances.

  • Yum. I ate there once after hearing rave reviews but I have to say I wasn't impressed. The service was weird and, well, if you're a vegetarian in Columbus there are so many other (much much better) places to go for a meal. Of course you can order your meal in French, but still, to me the food was disappointing.

I say stick with the bread and pastries but that's just me.

  • The croissants at Le Chat are awesome. There's also one on High St. in Worthington. There used to be a bakery on 5th ave. in Grandview that had the best breads...totally blew Le Chat away. Does anybody remember that place or know if it's still around?

  • If you're talking about the French Loaf, it's still there: 1456 W 5th Ave.

  • Yep, that't it. Thanks Abby!

  • We tried to have a pre-wedding lunch there for my sister last weekend - the service was completely frightening. Abby, you were right they are weird! They lost our reservations for our large group and offered no apologies or accomodation. We calmly and reasonably expressed our disappointment and dissatisfaction, and instead of being sympathetic, the owner made a speech in his loud french accent about how great he is and telling us to "Get OUT - LEAVE NOW!" as he gazed into the sky (so to speak). We left and to our $700 order next door to The Worthington Inn - much better!
